Hello, Pet Lovers!
I’m Morena, a 43-year-old dog enthusiast and the proud owner of a 12-year-old Labrador named Rio. Since childhood, dogs have been more than companions to me; they’ve been my confidants, playmates, and steadfast friends. I’ve developed a special bond with these incredible creatures, and that love has only deepened over the years.
I’m that person who can’t resist approaching, teasing, or at least throwing on a silly smile when passing by a dog. But my love extends beyond the exuberance of puppies; it’s a genuine empathy for our elder canine friends. I’ve always believed that the beauty of a dog’s spirit shines brightest in its golden years, and my mission is to ensure that every senior dog gets the love, care, and respect they deserve.
I come from the small Mediterranean country of Croatia, where Rio, being a true Labrador, enjoys the sun and sea all year round. We’re fortunate to call the seaside our home, and Rio, a genuine representative of his species, loves swimming regardless of whether it’s in winter or summer.
Rio and me enjoy long walks together, although they have become a bit shorter as he’s gotten older. One of our favorite activities is watching the sunset together, taking in the beautiful colors and peaceful atmosphere.
Living by the seaside, Rio and I absolutely love spending time in the sun and sea. Whether it’s a refreshing swim or simply lounging on the beach, the water holds a special place in our hearts. It’s where Rio’s spirit truly comes alive, and he forgets about his age, embracing the joy and freedom of the moment. We cherish these moments, knowing that they create lasting memories of happiness and contentment.
In his elder years, Rio may not be as active on land, but the moment he touches the sea, he forgets his age and transforms into the lively companion he was in his best years. His energy is boundless, and he could swim for hours, disappearing from sight for a few days afterward, undoubtedly relishing the joyful memories created in the water.
Rio’s Health Journey: Allergies and Paw Problems
As Rio has entered his senior years, he has been facing health challenges. Allergies, in particular, have become more visible and impactful. On the Golden Years Paws website, I’ll be dedicating a special section to allergies, sharing insights, tips, and products that have helped Rio navigate this aspect of aging. 
Additionally, Rio has developed paw problems due to pododermatitis, leading him to walk with shoes over the past year. This adaptation ensures he can still enjoy his walks comfortably while protecting his paws from further irritation and injury.
